Spiti Valley is a remote high mountain desert region in the Himalayas,
lying in the North East of the Indian hill state of Himachal Pradesh,
and forming part of the Lahaul and Spiti district. Thick ice and
heavy snow fall render the valley almost inaccessible for seven
to eight months of the year. Spiti has a distinctive Buddhist
culture as found in Tibet and the Ladakh region of India.
